Technical and scientific advances invite us to think that in the near future we will be immortal.
However, despite these advances death still exists; it frequently happens in the midst of much suffering largely avoidable and, furthermore, is often caused by those same progresses that were supposed to confer us immortality.
Certain countries have faced this reality in a serious manner. Some have made significant advances in palliative care; others have even legalized euthanasia and physician-assisted death.
However, some of these changes are still pending in most countries -Mexico amongst them-, at least in some significant degree.
The Biennial Congress of the World Federation of Societies for the Right to Die 2020 -WFRtDS 2020-, of which DMD Mexico is its proud host, will seek to question a conception of death that causes so much suffering. The meetings and debates that will take place within this congress will also bring into the discussion different bioethical perspectives which will allow attendees to develop a personal and well-supported position on the vast and complex universe of the right to die with dignity.
